You can reach Wagtail Safari Lodge in just one day using either road or air transport. Travelers coming from Kigali, Rwanda, can cross into Uganda via the Katuna border (Kabale) or Cyanika border (Kisoro). The drive from Kigali to the lodge takes around 4 to 5 hours.

If you’re traveling from Kampala or Entebbe, you can drive through Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale, and Kisoro, a scenic route that takes about 9 to 10 hours.

For a quicker and more luxurious journey, you can fly from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip to Kisoro Airstrip a flight that takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. From Kisoro, it’s a 2-hour drive to the lodge.

Gorilla trekking usually lasts between 2 to 7 hours, depending on how far the gorilla family has moved and the pace of the group. During the journey, you might also see monkeys, forest animals like elephants, jackal, and bird species. Once you find the gorillas, you will get to spend one unforgettable hour watching and taking photos as they carry on with their daily life and activities.

Gorilla Habituation Experience in Rushaga sector

Another rare and exciting activity available near the lodge is the gorilla habituation experience in Rushaga sector. This involves spending up to four hours with a semi-habituated gorilla family, such as the Bikingi group.

Only four visitors are allowed per day to do gorilla habituation experience in Rushaga sector, and they join a team of researchers, conservationists, and guides. You will take part in helping the gorillas get used to human presence a process that contributes to conservation and education. The trek to find the group can also take between 2 to 7 hours.
