1
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to your hotel

We arrive at Kigali Airport and are welcomed by our company representative and be transferred to our town hotel in Kigali for check-in before a pre-safari briefing. Dinner and overnight at The Manor Hotel

Day 2: Southern Rwanda cultural exploration

After breakfast we drive to the southern part of Rwanda. We visit the Kings Palace in Nyanza and the Museum and learn a little about Rwanda’s rich aristocratic history and the colonial period. After the visit we continue on our journey to Butare where just arrive in time for lunch. After checking in at our hotel we visit the National Museum. Besides being a great source of information on the cultural history of the region, the museum is well set-up and is probably the finest ethnographic museum in East Africa. After the visit, the renowned Intore dancers entertain us with by spectacular performance. Dinner and overnight stay will be at our hotel. Day 3: Nyungwe forest canopy walk

After breakfast, we will depart for Huye the second largest city in Rwanda which is also regarded as the intellectual city of Rwanda because of several academic and research institutions. We leave with packed lunch and head for Nyungwe Forest for a canopy walk on an elevated walkway above the tree tops. An eloquent guide explains to us the different plant species in the forest which is part of the Congo Rain forest. In the late afternoon, we check in at our guesthouse/lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Top View or Gisakura Guest house.

Day 4: Nature walk, birding and primate search

After an early breakfast, we go on a hike in search of primates, particularly chimpanzees. This park is a paradise for hikers. The terrain is rugged and steep, and at a relatively high elevation. We need to wear good hiking shoes and warm clothing. Besides Chimpanzees, there are troupes of Angolan Colobus monkeys. Be prepared for a strenuous hike. We return to our guesthouse/lodge for a late lunch and relax in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Top View or Gisakura Guest house.

Day 5: Transfer from Karongi to Kibuye genocide memorial

After breakfast, we leave for Karongi district passing through the green fields of tea plantations with a visit to Kibuye memorial near Lake Kivu. The memorial sits next to the church, the site of a major massacre. The memorial’s close proximity to the church demonstrates how the genocide continues to play a central role in the day to day life of Rwandans. We have lunch in Kibuye town and check-in at our hotel/ resort for dinner and overnight at Hotel Golf Eden Rock/equivalent.

Day 6: Relaxation at the hotel and tour peace Island on Lake Kivu

Today we relax at beach and pool in the morning and take a boat trip to the exciting, beautiful attractions and scenic views of Lake Kivu after lunch. We visit the small Islands including and Peace Island the Napoleon Island which is home to thousands of Bats. For Dinner and overnight stay we return to our hotel/resort at sunset. Day 7: Tour to Gisenyi and Kibuye

After breakfast we drive along the coastline. The resort towns Gisenyi and Kibuye stand on the lake and are connected by a panoramic 100km road that passes through plantain fields and relics of rainforest. We arrive at Gisenyi just in time for lunch. After lunch we explore the town bordering Goma in Congo on foot and later relax at the pool. Dinner and overnight stay will be at our hotel/ resort. Day 8: Gorilla tracking Volcanoes National Park-Afternoon cultural encounter

After an early breakfast at 6.00 am, we drive to the Volcano Park Headquarters (60 km) for a detailed briefing. We are divided into groups of eight and each group is allocated rangers who take us through the forest in search for a Gorilla family allocated to us. The trek may take anything between 2 to 4 hours until we spot the gorillas feasting on bamboo sprouts. We have an hour to observe them in their habitat and take pictures. If everything goes well we will be back at the lodge for a late lunch. In the afternoon we can watch a traditional dance. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Hotel Muhabura or Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge

Day 9: Transfer to Kigali international airport

After breakfast we drive to Kigali. Depending on the timing of our international flight, we can have lunch on the way or in Kigali before being dropped off at the airport.
