“The feeling you get when you see a mountain gorilla up close can’t be described,” he says. “It’s truly one of the most memorable moments of any journey to Africa.”

Paul Muvunyi, who owns Mountain Gorilla View Lodge and is a partner in Akagera Game Lodge, explains that many tourists end up staying longer than planned. “Once they find food they enjoy and feel at home, they tend to extend their stay,” he shares.
He also points out that Rwandan hospitality plays a big role in guest satisfaction. The warm welcome and generosity of the locals make visitors feel appreciated and valued.
Karisoke Research Center and Dian Fosseys
Kinigi is also special because it gives easy access to the Karisoke Research Center, founded by American primatologist Dian Fossey. She spent her life studying and protecting mountain gorillas until her tragic death in the very forest she was deeply passionate about.

Volcanoes National Park

He adds that Rwanda is fortunate to still have these monkeys, as Kinigi is one of the last strongholds where they could be saved from extinction.
