DAY 1: Pickup in Nairobi – Travel to Masai Mara – Game Drive
Our guide will pick you up at 7:00 AM from your hotel, residence, or the airport in Nairobi to start your 6-hour journey to the Masai Mara Reserve. Along the way, you’ll travel through the beautiful plains of the East African Rift Valley, the Masai lands, and Narok district. The Masai people are among the last true cattle nomads in Africa, relying on their livestock for survival. The journey includes stops for taking photos at scenic spots, shopping for souvenirs in Narok town, and short breaks for refreshments or bathroom visits. Our guide will provide instructions and assist you throughout. You’ll arrive at the reserve in the afternoon and enjoy lunch before checking into your lodge. Depending on the lodge’s location, you might spot some wildlife right away. In the late afternoon, your driver will take you on your first game drive. During this drive, you’re likely to see animals such as buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, cheetahs, and possibly leopards. DAY 2: Full-Day Game Drive in Masai Mara National Reserve
Start your day early for an exciting adventure in the Masai Mara Reserve. You’ll spend the entire day exploring the reserve in an open-roof vehicle, offering fantastic views of the wildlife and landscapes. Be prepared to see the “Big Five” animals: buffaloes, leopards, lions, rhinos, and elephants. Morning game drives are especially exciting as you might witness predators like lions and cheetahs hunting. Don’t forget your camera to capture the amazing sights. Your guide will also take you to the Mara River, where you can see more animals, including those gathering at the riverbanks to drink in the afternoon heat. This river is where the famous wildebeest migration happens annually. In between game drives, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the midst of nature. The meal will be prepared by your lodge and packed in boxes for you. Remember, it’s important not to feed any animals, particularly baboons and monkeys, during lunch. One of the day’s highlights will be a visit to a traditional Masai village (Manyatta) near the reserve. A Manyatta is a group of huts surrounded by thorny fences to protect the villagers and their livestock from predators like lions. While visiting, you’ll meet the elders, learn about the Masai’s nomadic lifestyle, culture, and traditions, and enjoy performances of traditional dances, songs, and stories.
