Ziwa rhino sanctuary is located 176km north of Kampala on the Gulu highway towards Murchison falls national park. Ziwa is a sole place where you are sure to see rhinos in Uganda’s wilderness. Currently the sanctuary harbors over nineteen (19) southern white rhinos. Ziwa sanctuary is increasingly getting popular with tourists; for rhino trekking, bird watching, nature walks and relaxation. Ziwa Rhino sactuary and Wildlife Ranch located in Nakasongola district is the proud home of the only white rhinos in Uganda managed by Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Murchison Falls National Park is one of Uganda’s best safari parks for game viewing safaris and birding tours. Together with Kaniyo Pabidi and Budongo Forest, Murchison Falls is an important destination for primate safaris most especially chimpanzee tracking safaris.

Kibale Forest Primate Reserve contains vast tracts of equatorial rainforests. This park contains the world’s highest concentration of primates in the world.

Kibale Forest Primate Reserve is located 35 kilometers south of Fort Portal, it also shelters Uganda’s third largest population of elephants. For visitors, the major attraction in the park is the 500-strong population of chimpanzees – one of man’s closest relatives. Visitors can opt for 4-hour guided forest walks to catch a glimpse of some of the chimps.

Kibale equatorial rainforest contains the highest concentration of primates in the world, including about 500 chimpanzees. This enchanting park is full of lakes, marshes and grasslands and its slopes contain several distinct types of forests (low land tropical rainforest, deciduous forest and montane forests), perfect for its arboreal inhabitants. Out of the 12 primate species living in Kibale, the chimpanzees attract the most attention.

Eleven different species of primates have been recorded in the park. This includes the Black and White and Red Colobus, L’Hoest’s Monkeys and Galagos. The reserve is also home to a large population of elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and a large variety of butterflies and birds.

Some of the more “popular” birds are the Hornbills and Turacos. For the nature lover, the rainforests themselves are a wonder – the trees grow very high and their circumferences are enormous. There is dense undergrowth, through which small streams make their way and occasionally create swamps in open areas where buffaloes and antelopes graze.

Lake Mburo National Park is one of Uganda’s loveliest wildlife safari destinations. It is important for game viewing tours, Birding safaris; foot safaris (guided nature walks) as well as sport hunting and horseback riding.

Lake Mburo National Park is a gem of a park, conveniently located close to the western highway that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda. Lake Mburo National Park situated in Mbarara district is about 3.5 hours’ drive from Kampala.

Though the park is just 370km2 in size, its landscapes are varied and even a short drive is alive with interest and color. Interesting mammal species in the park include impala, Burchell’s zebra, and eland that are not found elsewhere in western Uganda.

Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda is a notable Uganda safari destination for wildlife tours, chimpanzee tracking adventures, birding safaris etc.

The 1978 square Kilometers Queen Elizabeth National Park enjoys a stunning location on the rift valley floor between Lakes Edward and George where a mosaic of habitats supports 95 mammal species and a remarkable 612 species of birds.

Forty years ago, Douglas Willocks described the diverse features that led to its creation in 1952. There still exists no better introduction or a more enticing invitation to visit the park.

Scenically the area had everything. Thirty miles to the north, the blue Rwenzori exploded from the plain, a composite, jagged mass of mountains, sixty miles long and forty wide and looking in certain lights as if you could reach out and touch them.

Across Lake Edward to the west, the Mitumbe hills stood sentinel on the Congo, blue too in the long sight but in the closer green, wooded, precipitous, unfriendly and epitomizing darkest Africa. The eastern boundary of this possible park was marked by the calm green escarpment of the western Rift Valley.

And between all the hills, mountains and lakes was endless savanna, its constantly repeated motif the branched cactus arms of the candelabra euphorbia tree.’

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has half the world’s populations of highly endangered Mountain Gorillas. Visiting them is one of the most emotional wildlife encounters you will ever experience.

This pocket of huge primeval forest in the Virunga Mountain range is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth. It has an eco-system that defines the very essence of the continent and has therefore been designated as a World Heritage Site.

The forest floor is damp and laden with leaf mold, matted vegetation and fallen vines, which serve to trip you up as you clamber up and down the slippery slopes in search of a glimpse of the elusive gorillas.

Searching up to altitudes of 6,500 feet (1,982 metres) can be exhausting but the rewards are worth it. Of course it may not be as difficult as that, but when visiting the Bwindi gorillas you should be prepared to unleash the explorer in you.
